Production IT Transforamtion

The Media and Entertainment industry has experienced an accelerating pace of change over the past 10 years, lead by the convergence of Media technology and the transition from Film to Digital. With the most recent platform shift lead by mobile devices, cloud and social networks, the internet has transitioned from content that was delivered as text to a majority of content now delivered as video. In addition, new distribution platforms emerged that have challenged the market position of the Major Studios, eventually launching their own Creative Services organizations and leading with original content.

The competition that has emerged from this shift has caused significant disruption through M&E activity, as entertainment organizations look to innovate through bolt-on acquisitions to fill gaps in their portfolio and find higher margin business opportunities. We’re now experiencing another platform shift which is happening faster than the previous one, lead by Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Production pipelines will need to accommodate even larger frame sizes, increased bandwidth and storage capacity to handle volumetric data.

As the complexity of managing dynamic workflows across this new media landscape emerge, organizations are looking to reduce costs by commoditize the production pipeline, gain operational efficiencies through “Production IT” shared services and enable automation of the new digital supply chain.

The Production IT Transformation Assessment is designed to provide a 3rd party, non-biased perspective of the most efficient way to consolidate, standardize, automate and deliver shared Production IT services within your organization. This assessment includes the documentation of existing Workflows, Infrastructure, Networks, File Systems and Data Governance models.

The [RE]DESIGN Group Production IT Transformation Assessment is a comprehensive discovery of the entire digital pipeline process from capture to distribution. Most media and entertainment organizations have the following digital production pipeline that has been upgraded to handle 4K and 3D infrastructure requirements over the past several years. With many new technologies and storytelling mediums like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality on the horizon, the production pipeline will need to be upgraded, expanded, protected and prepared for continuous change.

Production Asset Inventory

The first step in preparing for future content creation and distribution opportunities, is the assessment process. Production IT infrastructure typically includes a complexity of network switches, storage systems and servers that each perform a certain task to complete the production process.

Our Production IT Transformation Assessment begins with a discovery of every element and device that is attached to the network, delivering a complete blueprint of the existing infrastructure.

Secondly, we evaluate each server and system to determine its capability and configuration map. For example, we will identify the memory bandwidth and performance level of every workstation. To complete the performance evaluation of servers, client workstations and storage systems, we have a variety of tools that can be used.

[RE]DESIGN will deliver our Production IT Transformation Assessment results in an Excel workbook format with asset information and rack elevation diagrams. In addition, the Client will receive a combination of PowerPoint documents and Excel summaries for storage system workload profiles and file system assessment results.

The Workflow Documentation will be delivered using vision and flow charts. An Executive Report will be included in PDF format with a summary of the technology requirements required to support the Production IT Environment along with proposed solution recommendations for Shared Production IT.
